Friday evening at about 10.45pm a group of us Ian(photon) and Simon(?) and myself were packing up after our first observational night with and Adult Ed Class we are running in Launceston and a magnificent fireball streaked accross the sky from West to East and broke up into two visible fragments before it burnt out.

Usually you blink and they are gone but once spotted the others had time to turn and see as well. It was a pity the class had all gone home.

We have two more obs nights for the class in the next two weeks so we might be lucky and see some more.

anyway at least the warmer weather has brought us out of hibernation

bye for now

Wow that must have been spectacular!
What colour was it?

No noticable colours. Just very very bright and long in duration. Does that indicate that it got down a fair way before burning out I wonder? I suppose thats logical. It seemed rather low in sky heading East.

Yes its been a mucky dark winter in Tas. Too cold and too cloudy. But I suspect I'm just a wimp!

Looks like such an event as this meteor is a rare pleasure.

Summers on the way!

Your not alone Michael!

Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights I saw several fireballs coming from the North!

Dunno what's going on unless they are the last dregs of the Leonids! ???

These ones were slow, large and bright yellow/white. Can't check for any tonight coz it's raining.

Iwas was with Mike when we saw the meteor split in 2, I,ve never seen anything like it. I thought It was orange in colour. how big would a meteor have to be to be able to split into two bits?
