I've done a couple of Vixen GP's. I think Jimshed on here pulled his apart not too long ago, lives near me and actually knows what he is doing! Was fairly straightforward once I got into it. I didn't need a special tool to remove the RA and Dec lock nuts, I found that loosening the locking grub screws off the thread on the axis and leaving the allen key in and turning the axis while the allen key rested in the slot on the mount head worked - I may have been lucky. Polar Scope was a Devil to remove - I needed a Stilson wrench wrapped in plenty of cloth - I may have been not so lucky on this one. Be very careful reassembling DO NOT attempt to dry fit the gear back on the shaft. Measure the thickness of any spacers when you remove them and make a note of exactly where they came from. Take photos at every step.

Take photos of everything you take off and what's left. Then you can reverse the process without messing up.

Thanks for all your replies,
When ever I asked my first employer (mechanic) how to fix something he would reply "everything is logical" & offer no guidance. At the time it frustrated me, but in the long run it helped me to believe I could work it out..... I even heard his voice in my head upon loosening the first grub screw today. Mission completed, scrapped out all manufacturers cheap sticky grease & replaced with top shelf stuff. It all works smoother than before with less slack too.... Oh yeh I did photograph all stages :) just waiting for clouds to disperse now :):)
