The Opium Poppies.
Devonport, Tasmania.
Grabbed these coming from Forth through to Devonport the other day.
It's unusual to see the red poppy so prominent when modern poppies for morphine production are a pale lilac. These are probably 'throwbacks' to the originals the modern plants are developed from.
There are two suppliers of seeds here, and these may come from one while the other surrounding fields are probably under contract to the other company, because they have no red ones in their crops.
Or maybe they are buying the seed from Afghanistan, since all the photos I've seen of theirs are red ;)
This would be an annoying loss of income given the percentage of pretty reds in the fields that don't produce the same large opium capsule the lilac ones do.
