Just received a copy of the special issue from Astronomy magazine af Atlas Of The Stars. At US$14.95 inc delivery it's fantastic value for this 100 page Atlas.

24 Double page colour star maps

100 Spectacular Images

1000 DSO's

45000 Stars plotted down to mag 8.0

Location maps include Dwarf Galaxies in Fornax..Sculptor..Tucana..Aquarius and many more.
The Fornax Cluster of Galaxies..Stephan's Quintet..Cats Paw Nebula.. My Cn 18 Planetary Nebula.. and Shapely 1 just to mention a few. There are many many more objects other than the Messier NGC and IC lists.

There have been many DSO's that I have had trouble finding on an easy to follow chart on the web or a hard copy book.

Everything I have ever needed to locate is in this Atlas

I can highly recommend it to anyone looking for such a comprehensive Atlas IMO it's worth a lot more than US$14.95 ;)

Check it out on this link www.astronomy.com (http://www.astronomy.com) There's also a good write up on it in the May 2006 issue of Astronomy magazine .. page 90

Sounds great! Do you know if it is this for subscribers only or if it is available at newsagents too? Is it an add-on to one of the recent issues? If so which issue? (i.e. what month?) Or is it a special stand-alone publication by Astronomy mag?

Steve it's a stand alone publication by Astronomy mag. And I am not a subscriber so it's available to anyone as far as I know.

Sorry, now I see on the page you linked. Just had to search the page for the word "Atlas" - too cluttered for me. :P Acc. to the online order form, it's $14.95 in US dollars for non-US customers (I suppose that includes delivery). Still an absolute bargain for a mag-8 atlas.

Did you get yours through the Astronomy mag website?

Thanks guys! I just put my order in for one. It will be a lot more convenient for quick lookups than the 30+ A2-ish sheets of my Sky 2000.0 field edition.

Did you look up that mystery galaxy you were asking about earlier in your new atlas? Got a positive ID on it yet?

I did Steve and there is a galaxy NGC157 near where I found it but I think it was a little closer to Eta Ceti than the one in the Atlas

Waiting for good skies to check it out again

I picked this up from a local newsagent about a month or so ago. It's really good, mag 8.0, plus lots of extra info. Cost me $24.50 (sounds like it would have been cheaper to order over the internet), I normally wouldn't consider paying that for a magazine, but if you consider it as a full colour mag 8 star atlas, the price isn't so bad.:)
