Blame it on the Boogie! (Update 1)

Work in Progress on LDN 1622 aka "The Boogie Man Nebula".

From the backyard under full moon.

Very happy with my first set of 30 min subs from the Hypertuned, belt driven EQ6 - nice round stars, woohoo! :D

10x 1800secs 5nm Ha

Still noisy as the MCG on grand final day, so needs more data and some form of colour, maybe HaRGB or full NB perhaps?

FYI - LDN 1622 is an unusual looking, fairly dim object more or less opposite M78 on the other side of Barnard's loop.

Added 6 hrs colour data - ('phew, that was hard - shooting unfiltered 10min subs in R,G & B from light pollutionville) - interesting processing!

Tried both S2 and O3 in NB but there appears to be none present in this DSO.

I've gone for a different, "spookier" mood than is usually used with this Ha dominated target. Hence the monochromatic blue colour palette.
Still needs more Ha to keep the noise under control - stay tuned, hopefully that'll happen in round 3!

looking good Andy, how are you going to put this together L-Ha-RGB? whoops hang on I just re-read you don't know yet.. not sure full NB will work on this subject? I've pencilled in Thursday night for a night of imaging, fingers crossed the forecast holds out!

Andy, can you give field of view and coordinates of the centre of your image? (I've got a catalogue position of 5h54:28 1:48:12 J2K, but don't know the FOV, and your image is centred differently).

A great choice of target. I noticed this one a while ago when I did a broad mosaic of the Orion area. Its a standout object and worth the effort.
Its looking good and congrats on your tracking. Its a relief when tracking works well.

Thanks Russ, yeah not sure if there's much S2 or O3 there, but will attempt it on Thursday if the weather forecast holds for us both - otherwise might have wait until I get out to a dark sky again for some RGB.

It reminds me of working with Sharpless 2-308 - it's very dim as in Disaster Area dim - "A black spaceship with a black interior with little black lights that light up black when it's operating"... :D



Mike, if you turn it 90 degrees CCW you'll see Mufasa the lion in there as well.
My FOV is 1.67x 1.3 - see a Sky safari screenshot for co-ordinates below - hope that helps!

The FSQ-106 at DSW is trained on LDN1622 at present so there will be a sudden glut of them on Astrobin in the near future...
