Binos for the cricket...and maybe the stars :)

I am looking to get some preferably cheap binos to watch my son play cricket. Low power, lightweight but with long eyerelief as I wear thick glasses. I have trawled the web, but come away more confused than when I started. Possibly, some 6x30 or 7x40 or 50.

Do the 30mm objectives have inherrently wider fov?

Andrews have some LER cheap binos but no indication as to weight or fov.

It would be nice if they can be used for scanning the sky when I don't have my telescopes around, or to help find things too.

Any thoughts appreciated.

pentax papillio i would recommend, they come in 6.5x & are nice & light -the fov is dependent on the eyepieces, not the objective.

for local cricket where you are not that far away i think most bins will be too much mag. i would recommend some opera style lenses, between 2-4x..they will let you still take the game in

the vixen 2.1x42 is good, but they aren't cheap

if you're glasses are thick -you will had trouble taking in the entire fov of any bino, you'll always be clipping some of the exit pupil i think you'll find

Most porro 30mm do have a wide field of view, this is the trend, as FOV is set by the ep, as dannat mentioned.
7x or 10x 50mm is more popular for astronomy, but starts to get larger and heavier.
6x or 7x 30mm is probably a good compromise.
Long eye-relief with roll down eyecups will help when you wear glasses.

Those Pentax Papilios look good. Opera glasses have just way too short eye relief.

Eyepieces are not normally changeable with binos - is that right?

There is mo obvious way of calculating eye relief if not otherwise specified with binos as I understand it too.

youre right can't change eyepieces.

some bino manufact. don't release eye relief inof -also some call it exit pupil distance. the other problem is depending on eyecup design usable eye relief might be much less than stated, as much as 7-8mm, because the eye lens is recessed well below the eyecup
