View Full Version here: : Tento 20x60 binoculars
Hi
Just wondering if anyone has experience with these?
I can pick up a second hand pair in good condition for around $40. I have a tripod which could handle this size.
Just wondering what people on this forum think, from reviews on the net they seem to be good, and at this price I am thinking they might be worth looking into!!
Looking forward to hearing what you think!
Thanks again
Janine

:welcome:to IIS Janine , on the brand I have never heard of these but that doesn't mean that they are not good , far from it .
Do they have any country of manufacture , and can you personally hold them if so 2 of the best things you can do is hold each 1/2 of the binoculars in each hand firmly and try to move each 1/2 in relation to each .. There should be no movement between them , zero ! , if there is don't buy them as they will be useless for astronomy the second thing is look at the front ( main 60mm lens,s ) lens,s and if they have a red/ruby colour again don't touch them as this is a sign of VERY inferior glass and will again be useless for astronomy.
If they pass the 2 simple tests. ( there are many more an others may chime in here) for. $40 they will probably be ok .
If not save yourself a bit of grief and buy from Andrews or Bintel , that way if you do get a lemon you have the option of a refund or replacement , they both sell good gear at all budgets and will talk you through any pitfalls.
One more thing. , any chance of a photo . Good luck and please keep us informed. , you might just be on to a winner .
Brian.
Thanks very much Brian! I was starting to think I wouldn't get any comments, so appreciate your taking time to respond. I will take your comments on board.
They are a user brand, and I have seen some good comments.
I will send you a pm
Thanks
Janine

 Yes I seen that , mostly all optics out of the USSR are of high quality , and the mechanics are always over engineered so I would think the $40 is a steal for these .
Brian.
They're obviously quite old though - right?

I've got the 12x40 Tento, made in the USSR, bought them for $30 at a local market, work well for daytime use, didn't like them for astro use. 12x is a bit too much power for hand held binos, and they are too small to bother mounting them.I think they are from the early 80's.
Thanks for the comments!!
