Hi all.
I was testing out my camera through my newly built scope when I snapped a few chosen parts of the Southern Sky. This was my first attempt in astrophotography.:D:
Afterwards I had a look to see what eventuated. I knew the scope wasn't properly collimated but I managed to capture a few stars and something else.
After expanding the image, the object in question is to the [left of centre, and it looks something like an asteroid.
I would appreciate all and any help in identifying what it is.:confused2:
Thanking all in advance:thanx:

Hi astro_nutt,

Welcome to this awesome hobby!

As for your first astro-photo, to be honest, from what I can see the stars seem to be just hot pixels, while the asteroid is probably a mark left by the only star captured in this photo and indicating wobbling telescope or inaccurate tracking.

Looking forward to more photos

Hi Slawomir.
Thanks for your reply. I should have mentioned the equipment I was using at the time. The scope is one in Current Project, (10" adjustable truss dob on a split-ring mount), in the ATM and DIY section. I had set up the scope just to take a few 2 second photo's without tracking, alignment, etc, just to check if I can focus on a star. The camera used is a Nikon D7000.
Next time I'll be set up properly and then enter the learning curve ahead!
Thanks again.
Cheers!
