Gday, just wondering if anyone aboard the forum has had any experience in installing Peterson's "Buck Gears (http://www.petersonengineering.com/sky/buckstuneup.htm)" into their LX200gps.Been tempted for ages to do it but been a bit wary although I had no hassles installing the Clutch upgrade provided by the same company. I'm also curious to check out how the standard gears are faring , the instructions with Buck gears seem from comments on the web to be well written so i think im ready to give it a go  comments and encouragement most welcome

LOL! How's that for coincidence, as I was going to install mine today!

Zane already installed the Dec side before I bought the scope from him, but he didn't get around to installing the RA set. I've been looking through the instructions this morning and might give it a go this arvo.....

.... long instructions, huh!

OK - I just took the Dec side apart to see if it was all OK as I've been getting some pretty wild backlash innacuracies in that plane lately. First thing I noticed is the cork clutch ring is shredded. Dang! It has been broken for some time and was just hanging in. I'll have to replace it asap. This is part of the clutch upgrade too!

I took the Dec system apart and checked for loose grub screws - of which I found one. The first Buck gear's (off the gearbox & next to the hand Dec control knob shaft) grub screw was loose - giving the effect of a sloppy hand control knob. I took all the screws out, cleaned them and have now re-tightened - with a dab of Loctite this time. Shouldn't come apart again....

That's all I can do there until I get a new clutch friction ring.

Oh! I took all the old crap grease out and gave it a good clean. I have plenty of the red grease left after the last time.

Now - the RA........ :P

Righto - a $14.00 fix from AutoPro for a 2x3 foot sheet of 2mm cork. I cut a ring of it out and fitted it just fine. It's slightly thicker than the old one, so it will either last longer (which is good) :D or it will be too springy (which is bad).:P Either way - it works just great.

So, the Dec side is all back together with about 90% mesh, which is as good as it gets without having to resort to twisting the motor/worm mount.

I put it all back together with new grease and it's lovely and smooth.

Now that I can lock Dec again, I'll invert the whole scope on its face and do the RA unit.
