The Orionid Meteor Shower - Morning 22-23 October 2015.

Aye, there's been so many early morning events these last couple of weeks, what's another one I guess :zzz2:.

With the Moon out of the way hopefully for those of us observing from suburbia might get to enjoy some of the show.

Our fellow IIS member Ian Musgrave who writes the fantastic Astro Blog, says, "Despite the maximum being on the 22nd Australian time, the best viewing is the morning of the 23rd, when between 3-5 am under dark skies you should see about a meteor every 3-5 minutes."
More info in his blog here: http://astroblogger.blogspot.com.au/2015/10/orionid-meteor-shower-morning-22-23.html

I have my three essential items ready to go:
Popcorn - It's a must when I observe meteor showers.
Banana lounge - goes without saying.
Heated electric throw blanket - because I'm a woos :P
Oh, and my notebook to jot down the hundreds I saw so I can show off :P

:screwy: .... wishes.

Good luck and happy Orionid viewing, let's hope it'll be enjoyable :) .

Thanks Ron :).

Sorry to hear about the weather- lousy for astronomy when you were in the U.K. and now back home .
It's a shame you haven't been able to observe the last days of comet US10 Catalina either, though now quite low.

I'm going to have to pick one night to observe the Orionids so I think the 23d morning may win out as per Ian's recommendations.

Thanks Suzy:thumbsup:
Just checked on US10 Catalina sets at 19:10 so yes its gone for me.
I am waiting now for the next bright comet to try out my 25x81mm binocular telescope.:D
Will try for the Orionids over the next couple of nights weather permitting.
Cheers:thumbsup:

Northern Tasmania:

Morning of 20th: Clouds 1, Scott 0

Morning of 21st: Clouds 2, Scott 0

Morning of 22nd: Clouds 3, Scott 0

Hoping I can get up in the morning of the 22nd and see something.

Will it be viewable after the 22nd?

I'm wondering if we will still be able to view some activity tomorrow morning? It's the first clear morning we've had in a little while!

Thx Suzette.
I will give it a try. I have the worst record for spotting meteors ever.
I can be out with someone and they're saying, 'Wow, see that?' - 'Wow, another one', 'did you see it?' Nope. Nope, and Nope
Though I did see a beauty a few weeks ago. Really big fireball stuff that went across a quarter of the sky.

Billi I'm jealous of your sky- it's been raining and is a blanket of cloud here in Brisbane .

I've had clouds and some rain for the last 3-4 weeks ( since my last posted image ) and the continuing prediction is for more of the same over the coming weekend.
I don't hold out much hope for any shooting stars unless they fall out of the sky ...
