...noise :)
If David Malin's catch-phrase is Repect the Light, mine has to be Respect the Noise :P "Cause that's all I ever have.
Wonderous 1hr30 on NGC7793, same data as before, this time NOT denoised or fiddled with. Taken at f/5 in a zone of light pollution outside the limits of the Bortle scale (maybe a 12/9). The poor LP filter struggles...
CCDStack didn't do as good an alignment as I wanted - ah well, it was just something to do. Might try it in PI next time.
Glorious ain't it :P :D :P

Stop with all the noise will ya, I'm going deaf :scared:
It's actually pretty good mate with some nice details coming out there

Immediately recognizable as the Sculptor semi-dwarf.
Good work!

Sorry, what did ya say Mike? :P
I have a new problem that requires rectification - neighbour, who's "security" floodlight used to automatically switch off at 2210, now switches off at 2330. She refuses to turn it off (she lives in fear it seems), so I unfortunately have had to make a formal complaint of "light pollution and sleep deprivation" to the local council, since it not only fully illuminates our back yard, but also the first and second story bedrooms. And I refuse to simply use blackout curtains, especially in summer! It simply should not be on past 8pm.
Anyway, the trials and tribulations of the city astronomer...

OK, I just fired up PI for the first time in maybe a year - still running Ripley 18 :)
WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I haven't done debayer - I just wanted to see how well it registered and integrated... OK, I might be converted finally!
Same stack, now run through PI with Lanzcos-3 interpolation.
Tighter, less noise, more detail - look at the background GX's appearing!
Rick, I am coming to your next seminar!!!

Resistance is futile...
Welcome to PI cult Lewis! ;)

Looks like a faint sucker. Just checked it out in the SkyX. Its a good candidate. I take it you are going to persist with it?

For as long as I can Paul - and hopefully focused next time! :P

Looks great. I am learning PI at the moment and the main thing I think is understanding the different ways of handling windows, applying processes, creating a preview etc.

Figured out an effective workflow now for the OSC CCD.
Only thing I do NOT like as compared to CCDStack is I am seeing microlensing artifacts for the first time - CCDStack doesn't do that, but then again, the star sizes in CCDStack are bloated compared to PI.
I guess it is an acceptable tradeoff - the GX is SO much more detailed.
I also wish PI didn't need 4 seperate folders to keep the output sensible, but I can live with having to be more prepared :) Laziness no more.

Made the error of using Superpixel debayer this time, and will do VNG or bilinear next time, so the image is binned.
I think it is a true representation of what 1.5 hours in severe LP using an LP filter with an OSC looks like. Sure, more time will give a MUCH better result, but this was just a trial to get my head around PI once and for all.
This is NO darks, bias or flats - got to figure that part out properly, as well as a defect map. I could not figure out how to save the scaled image in PI, so took the saved fit to CCDStack and scale saved it as a 16 bit tiff then into PS for some final tweaking - not confident with some of the PI stuff yet, especially pixel math.
Shows more promise. Amazing what we can find experimenting rather than it being handed to us on a plate :)

In some respects I've got it a bit easier, having only seriously began joining the astrophotographery thing like two months ago, I have started played with PI with no knowledge of PS so I more of a blank slate :P
