I'm heading off to Tasmaina in a couple of weeks with a small group of car enthusiasts. Going to drive some of their great roads, including several of the Targa Tasmania stages. Anyway, my question is assuming the southern aurora is active, where are some good spots to set up and photograph it? I'm assuming down Hobart way - we'll be there on the Wednesday & Thursday nights.

The aurora has been quite active over recent weeks with sightings and excellent photos from all parts of the State. So virtually anywhere with a good southerly aspect that is not affected by light pollution will work.
There are a number of popular sites south of Hobart to avoid the worst of Hobart's lights. Close to Hobart is the amount Nelson Signal Station but some of the better sites are about 20 minutes further south. These include Tinderbox Beach and surrounds, the Howden boat ramp and foreshore, Trial Bay near Kettering and the coastal road south from Gordon.
These are just some southern ideas and as I said there have been stunning photos from all over the State. Best is to get outside every evening to check where ever you are.
Enjoy your holiday driving and hope you score an aurora.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks for the reply Steve. Sorry, been off the grid for a few days. Yes, I will be checking out the evening sky each night. Hopefully I get lucky (with an aurora sighting). I'll take a drive out if conditions are conducive. If you see a bunch of Porsche's running around stop by & say gidday.
Night 1 - Cradle Mountain Lodge
Night 2 - Bicheno
Nights 3 & 4 - Hobart
