Scott Wilmot Bennett captured this beautiful shot on the night of October 18th at 11.10pm from Tasmania. The Emus are silhouette figures, 16 different ones line the Heritage Highway Silhouette Trail between Tunbridge and Kempton in Tasmania.
Scott wrote, "Tonight, after the earlier glowing patches had died down, we set out to capture emu! We had prearranged permission to chase them on a property near Tunbridge. In the darkened paddocks, much yelling could be heard above the calls of sheep. We whooped as auroral beams appeared and cursed as car headlights, from the nearby Midlands Highway, also flooded the scene!"
Due to intense hunting the Tasmanian Emu is now extinct. By the middle of the 1800s the few known Tasmanian emus were in captivity. The only remaining complete specimens can be found at the British Natural History Museum in London. 11-16mm f/2.8G @11mm f/4 25s ISO 1600

* Venus and the Crescent Moon Conjunction from WA
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/newsletter/images/20151020-venus-moon.jpg
On Friday morning, 9th October, the Crescent Moon occulted Venus in the pre-dawn sky. Nightscape Photographer extraordinaire, Colin Legg, was at Bremer Bay to capture the beautiful sight.
Colin says:
"I made my way out to the conjunction point.. a 5 hour drive east of Perth to Bremer Bay where Venus would emerge from behind the Moon just as it cleared the horizon. Perched on a cliff face, looking east over the southern ocean, I watched the two brightest objects in the night sky slowly drift apart as they climbed into a starry early morning sky. It was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes and reminded me once again why I do these seemingly crazy trips... :)"
