G'day everyone,

I haven't contributed anything for a while but have still been trying my hand at capturing a few nightscapes. These two have been my best of late, hope you enjoy them!

If you have any thoughts of improvements for future images, I would be keen to hear.

EDIT: First shot was with my Sony A5100 and Samyang 12mm. Second shot was with my brothers Fuji X100 with 35mm lens.

Cheers
Jo

Hi Jo, Both images look really good to me. Nice locations. You could mention what gear etc. you used. Cheers, John W.

They are better than some Pro shots I have seen Jo! Magnificent mate!

Both are great but the 2nd one I really like. Its the composition and landscape and the lovely green airglow. Some lovely shades of blue and some reds and browns. A great gamut of colours.

My conclusion on these nightscapes is the Milky Way is not in fact the subject of the image but rather the landscape and the MW forms a nice backdrop or secondary subject. I think that is one of the keys to composition of these shots. The best ones always have interesting landscapes and the MW simply enhances them and makes the image more interesting.

Beautiful shots Jo. Love that 2nd one.
What are the mountains out of interest?

Thanks Rob, glad you like it. The mountains are the outer edge of Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia.

Aha! Was surprised Cecil Plains/Millmerran had such photogenic hills nearby - that explains it :)

Jo, the TV was still on kids ABC this morning after dropping Miss 7 at school, and Behind the News was on...with your segment piece! VERY impressive mate!

No telling you are a QLD country kid with that drawl :) I am worse, being thrown up in the NT :P
