A new transient, presumably a cataclysmic variable, has been put up on CBAT's Transient Objects Confirmation Page (TOCP) at discovery mag 11.8 and confirmed by several observers. Its nature is not known and a spectrum is needed.

Photometry by Seiichiro Kiyota yielded B=13.65, V=12.04, Rc=11.12 and Ic=10.09. I imaged it tonight. Under high saturation its colour is orange - I'm betting a nova but with the extinction in that area could it be enough to tip a different type of cv towards the red?? Time will tell!

TCP J17344775-2409042 has been spectroscopically confirmed as a classical nova:

Dimmed off considerably in last night's image, V ~ 13.4 by my estimate.
