GDay,
Haven't had much time in recent months to process data, but have just managed to do this one, from data taken earlier this year.
Why are "astronomy hours" much shorter than other hours in the day?
NGC 6302 - The Bug Nebula, Butterfly Nebula, is a bipolar planetary nebula in the constellation Scorpius.

You've got the central dust lane looking incredibly sharp. The whole thing is very sharp for LRGB as opposed to narrowband.
A tiny PN would be a good target for a classical Cassegrain.
What was the exposure?

Hi Mike N Trish,
10 min subs, with tossing out suboptimal frames - left with B x24, G x33, R x 19, L x 38.
RGB binned 2x2. L 1x1.

Tim

That's a very pretty and wonderfully colourful gem that Tim with lots of detail, nicely done.
A minor thing, it appears that you may have used Russel Cromans Star Shrink..? It's a personal thing I guess but I don't like what it does to stars if you are not very careful. It can tighten up the cores of stars alright but leave diffuse halos around them which to me looks odd and gives the image an obvious processed look.
What a scope BTW

Thanks very much Peter. I take my hat off to you imaging so amazingly well from Sydney - that takes extra skill.

Thanks Mike. Your eye is spot on as usual. Although I didn't use RC's Star Shrink, I used my usual PS star shrinking method, but could have done it better - I will go back and see if I can handle the star processing more subtly.
Thanks again!
Tim
Thanks very much Greg !

Thanks Alex.
Thanks Rick!

This PN is on my imaging list. I really like the colouring that this object is often presented in. There is good detail in this image despite it being quite small. Well done.

I seem to stumble upon this creature often in my travels across the night sky, but have never attempted to make something nice of it. It's small sizes combined with uninteresting surroundings has always put me off. But your image shows some good promise of interesting detail! Certainly the best celestial bug I've seen :)
