[rumples riot]

While watching the occultation I imaged this shot of Jupiter. Focus was good for a change, but high cloud affected the transparency, so the image was degraded.

4x powermate (thanks Peter)
imaged at 320 x 280
F40 ratio
LX200 10" scope
processed in Registax 3 and astra image.

Did some adjustment to this shot and think that this one is a bit better. Comments anyone?

Both pics look great to me Paul, if anything the second one is a bit darker to me. The tech side of things i don`t have a clue about as yet but the time will come to me one day. I would like to comment further on all the pics i look at in the forum but i feel i would be better to leave it up to you experts. Not knowing what i would be talking about i feel i would be taking up forum space. Good pic to me to. :)

Agree with Peter, both look equally good, even if the reprocessed version is a shade darker

Thanks Peter, you don't have to be an expert to tell me what you like. Processing these things can sometimes get you all crossed up. This can lead to confusion within my own mind as to what I think looks better. Other peoples opinions are good as they help to give an objective opinion. So by all means if you think that an image looks good say so and if possible why, same goes if you think it is not to your liking. You just need to be gentle when you give this opinion.

Paul considering the amount of cirrus cloud at the time, I reckon it is 1st class. Nice mate, you are still the master. The weather has been real ordinary since though. Typical.

Yeah weather today is total crap, raining at moment but not cold. Learn't yet another thing that night with the toucam. Try brightening up the image a little and this will reduce the blue pane from being all blurred during wavelet processing. I looked back on another shot which is my best so far and I did the same thing. With the powermates the gamma must be set around 40%, gain to make it reasonalby bright near 60% and saturation around 50%. will need to experiment a little more and see if this holds up. But having looked around on the net in last couple of days, this shot is one of the top 7 for the weekend. So must be getting very close to getting it just right.

Looking at maybe doing some mods to the Raw mode in colour on the software and would like some feed back from Bird to see if he went this way or knows anything about it.

I shot some pics on the same night & captured that bluish area too.Initially,I thought my eyes were getting tired & that the bluish area was a result of tired,bleary eyes. Your picture has confirmed that I wasn't seeing things.A great shot of Jupiter R.R

My eyes tell me the 2nd one is heaps better. It also appears spherical whereas the 1st one looks flat.

Nice pic of the blue/green fish swimming around the equatorial belt!

Very nice Robin, Saturn is very low now and I reckon very hard to get any detail with, what I can see is great. Jupiter looks excellent as well. Keep posting it is great to see others making the effort. God I am very much a learner, who am I to make comment.

Robin that saturn is pretty good, I can see cassini's division all the way around, looks like the innermost ring near the planet is visible also. Your jupiter is also good. Pretty good for the LPI. You might like to get a toucam pro 2. I started with the LPI and then progressed to the point that I wanted more detail. Good stuff. You should post more stuff.

Hi Paul, I certainly am interested in a toucam pro 2.Preferably set up to image.I'm after one that comes with an adapter & the IR filter stuff & any associated software.I'm aware of registax & the like.Any suppliers I should know about? There was a company in Adelaide that were selling them at christmas...

I don't care how clear all those glossy magazine photos are, your Saturn is incredible. Forget about the blurring, look at the 3D effect. If you concentrate on the shadow of the planet on the rings at the bottom is seems eerily real. Crystal clear photos don't have that.

It's spooky photos like this one that make me think how amazing it would be to look out of a space vehicle window and see Saturn for real. Silent but huge. Menacing but Majestic.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.I'm coming to grips with all the webcam stuff.If i (or all of us) had more clear nights,we'd all get in a lot more imaging practise wouldn't we.The saturn pic is with a 2x barlow attached, the jupiter pic has no barlow.
I'm getting on to the toucam 2day .........keep ya posted
