My first attempt at NB for this popular target.

Only 8 Hrs so far- 3x Ha, 3x S2 and just 2x O3 in 20 min subs all binx1 -

Needs lots more data but difficult at this time of year as its disappearing behind the neighbours house by 11pm.
Nice to shoot a bright target for a change though.

Started life in Hubble palatte but as usual - I made a few colour tweaks!
(hope the colours look ok, this monitor at home is not as accurate at the one at work, even though it's calibrated)

The O3 was all slightly out of focus, interesting as I didn't touch anything between rotating filters, but it's affected the stars a little.
I'll probably remove and replace them all eventually with RGB stars.

Thanks for looking, comments welcome :)

New version now with Ha stars only, looks much cleaner - High Res here - http://www.astrobin.com/full/216516/B/

Actually it seems to have an interesting feel to the image Andy. Not sure about the mustard but it is dealers choice in NB

It's M8, but not as we know it :D Interesting and colourful treatment, Andy.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Greg, Hoped you would like it. "Rebel, Rebel" is one of my favourite Bowie tunes btw :)

Thanks Colin, have just been playing with a starless, tone mapped version - which really shows off the details and structure. It's good but hopefully it's clear again soon so I can get some nice RGB stars to add to it.
Cheers for the encouragement!

Thanks Mike - Diversity is the spice of life, and I'm happy to be "out there" on a limb sometimes. Assuming that I don't fall off!
Really appreciate all your feedback, both positive and negative with my imaging to date; it's been a great help, cheers :)

Cheers ReaPerMan, glad you liked it

Really like the colour workings on this Andy, looks like an Opal in petrified mud or something, very striking and the second image seems the better with me as the less stars helps the object pop
Nothing wrong with 'on the edge processing' in my books - still some feet to go before falling ;)

Thanks Bob. It's always interesting to hear people's interpretations of forms within Nebulae. I'm amazed at the "hole in space, inverted swimming pool" look to this NB image. I never saw that in an RGB image of it before.

Cheers
