has anyone had any experiance with this site ?
Its seems more dysfunctional than a mother in laws picnic

I'm currently trying to lodge my tax return and need a password reset The system alternates between refusing to recognise the code it sent me, or tells me I've had to many gos at the secret question that it hasn't asked me yet,or just plain freezes up,or calls a 404 error and does nothing more !

and then tells me my account is frozen for 12 hours because of the mess
next day same again :) the cynic within is started to see this as a jaded commentary on how well our tax dollars are spent .

Considering just how many tasks and departments it integrates (thereby removing more jobs), it does fairly well. I use it for Medicare more than anything, and it seems to work fine SOMETIMES, terribly MOST times.

I can guarantee the IT was outsourced to the cheapest bid...probably an Indian or Chinese company knowing our totally inept and short-sighted government.

And I bet it is also far easier to hack into the mygov system than it is to hack the New York Times Square billboard...

I believe MyGov was the result of marketing by IT people to politicians and bureaucrats with limited IT literacy. The ATO had a satisfactory system for lodging e-tax without all the extra security stuff of MyGov (which is essentially for social security recipients). BTW I wonder how those social security recipients, particularly the older ones, cope with it.

I'd actually be pretty surprised if it was developed outside Australia. Gov does a lot of development here. For example the new ATO myTax site was definitely done in Aus, I know one of the graphic designers involved.

Considering our wonderful government contracted a Chinese company for the then-new ASIO building wiring, phone lines and IT infrastructure, one must wonder...

I really do think the change to MyGov was a waste of time. Instead of making things easier, it's done the total opposite.I can never remember my username thingo, so I have to request that it's sent to my phone/email every time. It's a lot of stuffing around just to check an online letter that Centerlink sends out, only to find out the letter was totally unimportant.

Was on the site last night.
went around in circles a few times before I worked out how it all worked.
That was annoying but not as bad as trying to get etax loaded.
I stupidly upgraded to W10 on the home PC and guess what eTax wont install on it. We ended up using my wifes W8 tablet to do our tax on.

I recommend using a utility like LastPass. It stores all your passwords securely and can auto fill username and password fields with ease. Google LastPass. It's by no means the only app of this type but it seems eminently capable. And the entry level app us free forever.

LOL! Nice.

+1. If you happen to use a mac, you have keychain already built in, but there's plenty of third-party applications available on all common platforms.

Well I am surprised in that I have never had a problem using MyGov. For the unemployed, disability pensioners or students it has become a compulsory site for updating but I have never experienced an issue other than some letters not arriving on the same day as the letterhead suggests.

I think change is not well taken by most people. I have used both ATO (mostly super), Centrelink and a few other sites.

Spoke to the My gov help desk today.

Yes what I'm going through is definately not a geezer related incident :)

I'm told its somehow (he did use this word ) to do with customers not
accessing there account for some time and hes come across this numerous times , which fits with me not logging in for a year.

Went on to advise that this cant be fixed from his end and to keep trying
He did ask would I like him to forward a complaint up the line
Asked has it done any good in the past , his reply was well no but if they keep getting negative feedback things will change eventually, passed on going down that road .

But wait there is a way to beat this , register a new account
but you cant use your existing email , , it can be released to be used again if you request it , generally takes 2 weeks to process :)
Tax lodgement ongoing ,, there is a penalty looming end of next month ,, bet they can get that sorted and sent to me quite quickly :D

I was a Beta tester for ETAX and that has improved out of site since job 1.
The MyGov site has been handy when it comes to prefilling in ETAX and I guess it will improve given time.
The Phone App for making claims with Medicare via MyGov isn't bad as you can look up all your claims history and print it out if you have an issue with them as to who has paid what to who and when with a claim.
Came in handy for me just recently.
It'll get better. :D

I love the way it sends you an email to say you have a message waiting !!

Thought I would check out the thread because I have just found out you can make Medicare claims via it and I really should get my tax in.

Oh well here goes, wish me luck :)

Its a nightmare. Just a government attempt to force everyone online and unify their grab for information. I use I.T. all the time and find it a total pain in the bum; imagine what it would be like for a 70 year old.

... but medicare only works for some items and not others; you still have to go in to medicare and wait an hour or three to be ignored... unless you download the mobile App which they don't tell you about and doesn't work half the time anyway... Gawd :mad2:
