Very cool picture.

We have quite a lot around our area. Can hear their calls from inside the house sometimes. The attached is a couple I came across on the way home from work last year. Just a camera phone and a torch. I've seen them in the backyard during the day once or twice too.

Me too! :)

I know, I nearly went past the bird without noticing it, but just caught "strange looking tree bark" with a corner of my eye.

Nice shot Marty. I really think these are beautiful birds, and I was really excited to see one so close to the city; just a few streets away from Suncorp stadium!

Nice shot, Suavi! I had no trouble at all finding him (or her) but we get some practice spotting them in the bushland behind our house.

Thank you Rick. I was lucky that the owl was very cooperative and allowed me to take a photo from up close, although I did not want to be too intrusive either...

Maybe I could hook up the Canon with my 400 mm triplet? Would be funny though waking around the neighbourhood with a telescope

They should all be shot on sight!!!

A few years ago we camped at Goulburn R Nat Park. Late in the afternoon I was sitting under a tree reading when suddenly - ploop, splat, plop - me and the book were showered with brown fluid. I jumped up and saw above me a frogmouth having a big stretch as it woke up.

David, apparently such a surprise promises good luck for the future- after such a generous treatment you must be a very lucky person ;)
