I was working with clusters, but high thin clouds were causing problems with quality of image. The light of Moon was increasing the difficulty.

Therefore, ok, Moon, this is your day. I didn't change the camera and accessories like coma corrector and skyglow filter.

around 30% from 500 frames - factor 5x Canon - ISO 400 - 1/640
image close: 150 ~ 200% Photoshop
AS!2 - Wavelets Registax 6.0 - Photoshop CS3

full moon: 50 % from 200 frames - ISO 400 - 1/1000

The result:

Makes a nice change for you Jorge. The 305mm comes in handy for the higher magnification jobs doesn't it. I recently took several lunar
videos, but Registax has stopped working on both my comps, and
Autostakkert won't open my AVI files, so I can't do anything with them.

Wich camera are you recording the AVI files ? Try the free VirtualDub to open the AVI and save again as AVI. Maybe it can solve the problem with the AVI codec.

Taken in MOV format with my 1100D. Converted to AVI using "Any video
converter", which is what I have always done without problems, but as
there are several AVIs maybe I have selected the wrong one this time.
Thanks Jorge, I will try your suggestion.

Raymo, maybe good news:
1. My BackyardEos save movie from Canon in AVI format.
2. AS!2 can convert MOV :
" MOV files and other compressed files are also supported when FFmpeg executable is available to AS!2. In principle there are no file size limitations.

FFmpeg convert many types of movie.

"If you place an FFmpeg executable near autostakkert.exe, it will use this to automatically convert files it can't read (e.g. MOV files). You can download a Windows build for FFmpeg here."

Thank you again Jorge, but I fear this is getting beyond my computer
abilities. VirtualDub was unable to open them either. I might forget these
videos for now, and make some more.

hi Raymo,

do you have the software that came with the canon called 'ZoomImage Ex'? that can convert the canon mov files to avi.

btw nice moon shots Jorge. I like the full frame.

Thanks Russ, it's about 18 months since I used Reg, and had forgotten
that I used to use Zoom Ex.
Sorry for the hijack Jorge.

Have you tried PIPP ? it can take source video and dump out stills or avi, center objects or keep only best quality frames. No compression artifacts. Its saved me a bunch of times.

Hi sil, For some unknown reason Registax has started accepting the
AVI files put out by Zoom Browser Ex, like it always used to. One video
opened in Registax all stuffed up, but all the others were o.k.
So it seems that I am back in action.
Incidentally, I tried PIPP, but couldn't make head nor tail of it. Obviously
I'm not very comp literate.
Thanks sil
