Searched a few threads but couldn't find specifically the information I wanted, so throwing it open to discussion.

Today I bought two Desicant caps to fit into the eyepiece holder of my Lunt and TOA. They look like the picture below and have Desicant bags that can be dried out and re-used. All good.

What I want to do is find a way of securing some of the little bags to the inside of the dew cap at the front of the scope. Needs to be removable for drying out but secure enough not to fall off the inside of the dew cap onto the front lens. I considered bluetac but need to know that no damaging gasses or fumes will be released onto the front lens with the cap on.

Does anybody have any thoughts or tried better solutions?

As a follow up question: Does anyone know how to store the spare dry desi bags to prevent them collecting moisture?

Hi Les,

Have you considered self-adhesive Velcro tabs? Fasten the hook to one
and the loop to the other.

Available from hardware stores or outlets such as Officeworks -

I store mine in zip lock bags.

I also double bag them, just in case the first doesn't quite seal or something. Seems to have worked so far.

I like the idea of sticking some to the inside of a dew cap.

I'll have to have a think now.

2" x 2" adhesive backed Velcro does the trick for me.

Good thinking. Velcro seems to be a common selection. So I was thinking of getting a smallish ziplock plastic bag, large enough to fit 3 of the desi bags into, perforating it with some holes to allow moister through and Velcro-ing that ziplock to the inside of the dust cap. Can then just open and empty and refill and reseal the ziplock. Then when it wears out can replace the ziplock.
