Hi all.
A fellow IIS member was kind enough to part with an unused OAG.
Installed it last night and the end results are for you viewing.
Only 2 x 30 minute subs, full suite of calibration applied.
Stars are as good as I am going to get with this mount, considering it is 3kg over capacity...
Any feedback welcomed.

Very nice Scott, OAG, only way to go
The Lagoon looks like a fat Rhinoceros (running to the left) when framed like that :)
Is that a bad column in the middle of the image..?

OAG is a powerful ally...
Great result Scott!

Thanks for that Mike. I wish I had discovered this device 12 months ago!
I believe that is a bad column in the middle. Not sure why this wasn't removed in calibration. Any suggestions?

More subs if calibrating with Nebulosity? And there of course is a Cosmetic Correction tool in PixInsight... :P

Are you trying to convince me to join the pi cult! ? :D

Is the same column in your darks..?
In Astroart there is an option to remove any columns like that in pre processing, just have to tell it the column number.

Overall a very nice deep image and stars are very sharp.
Might have lost guiding briefly, because every star has a little echo a few pixels to the left. A third sub, and you can use median combine to make the echo go away.
Other than that tiny glitch, the guiding looks rock solid.

That might be a result introducing OAG into optical train that changed the spacing from the coma corrector, but I did not want to mention that as not to spoil Scott's joy ... :scared3:
I do not think that he will be able to reduce the distance between the coma corrector and the CCD with the OAG and filter wheel in between the two:question:
Irrespective of this minor imperfection (every system has some!), IMO we can now expect some really great images from Scott.

Looks like progress, Scott!
Watch those PI cult guys. One minute you're normal, the next you're spouting gibberish like "AtrousWaveletTransformation and GradientHDRComposition"
Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks very much Mike and Trish. The mount does tend to jump around a little bit. Probably severe pe or something. One day I will get around to stripping the whole mount down and tune it.

Apart from that bad column it is a pretty clean looking image, lots of detail in there :)
Cool. OAG rocks. It's a great image.

Thanks Colin. I have added some more data to the image. I think the bad column is gone. Now working on oxygen

I am looking forward to seeing your version of the Lagoon in colour Scott. Really happy that you have sorted out flexing - it surely has made astrophotography more enjoyable and also more rewarding
Being on OAG convert, you are on your way to becoming a member of a certain cult... ;)

The lagoon will have to wait until next year now. Camera going back to UK again to have desiccant chamber replaced :mad2:
Hopefully this will not take 2 months again

Oh no!...
At least you have the 314L and a small guide camera to keep you busy in the meantime...
That's a solid result Scotty. I've been thinking of trying an OAG for my rig, but I am not sure if the QHY5 is sensitive enough to use one. Anyway will be watching your progress with added interest. B the way what guide camera do you use?

Yes thanks Slawomir.
Rex thanks very much. My guide camera (but for a while it is now my imaging camera) is the Atik 314L. It is super sensitive. Never had a situation where I couldn't find a star.
Look out for two new images very very soon :D
