I was browsing for astropics for my desktop yesterday and found the amazing work of Robert Gendler. Many of the pictures are supplied in quite high resolution, big enough for a small poster I'd think.

Rob is certainly a leader in CCD mosaic work. You may also want to check out Russ Croman site for some equally impressive work - http://www.rc-astro.com/
I believe Rob and Russ recently got grants from RC Optical Systems and SBIG, hence both now have robotic imaging observatories under dark skies. Put bluntly, its not that they know how to image, they know how to process an image. These guys can make an average image come alive with their digital processing experience. Check out Robs collaboration with Aussie astrophotograph Martin Pugh - http://www.martinpughastrophotography.id.a u/Nebulae/NGC3576.htm. Martin's image is mighty fine, but when you see what processing Rob does to it, it turns out sensational. These guys are not in it for quantity, only quality. 20 to 30 hour exposure times to bring out extreme details are the norm for these two. They are truely masters and leading the way in CCD imaging.

It is unbelievable the results people are getting. I wish I hadnt blown all my money on boats and bikes I would have four 20 inch RC's on the same mount with 4 cams and different filters all the data going into a program to stack them into even better than those out now.. maybe they should be 30 inch even a metre... the good thing is if you have the cash your can buy the gear and that was not always the case.
I wonder where you guys at the cutting edge will take it the bar is set so high now
