After being awoken by my young kids during the wee hours this morning, I struggled to get back to sleep and so dragged the 10" dob out for a bit of observing. I'm certainly glad that I did as it provided my first chance of seeing the Orion Nebula through the scope since buying it a few months back. All I can say is "wow". I think I've a new favourite object! :)

Ben,
Yes, "WOW". M42 was First Light through my telescope.
What a sight it was at Astrofest waking up at 03:00 to see Orion rising over the hill. Sat there in my chair outside my tent and just admired the view.

Great image, Sirius just dominates, doesn't it? (understandably...).

The nice thing is that once you've seen it through a scope you can them almost see it naked eye forever after. You 'know' it's there and you get a glimpse of the glow and you 'see' it all over again. Even with binocs it's worth the look.
It's a difficult photo subject though with it's range of exposures.
