Hi all

Recently i was out using my skywatcher eq5 and was just going through the hand control sky tour function and there was a galaxy called "irregular galaxy".
I know there are lots of them with this tag line but was wondering what specific galaxy it was. Everything else in the tour function is named.

Any help would be much appreciate thanks

strange, the hand controller should allow you to see the RA and Dec for it and you can then go into a planetarium program and see what it is

Might have been C51?

How odd. There are lots of irregular galaxies. Perhaps it was NGC 300, the Cigar galaxy? Or have I mixed that up with NGC 55... Depends where it was, without some idea of the area of sky or the coordinates we probably can't be more specific.

Yup. 300 is a nice loose spiral, 55 is the cigar. It's certainly the brightest irregular I can think of after the smc.

4945 is widely known as the cigar galaxy.
