The Port Elizabeth, South Africa’s 8-inch Thos Cooke & Sons refractor telescope <https://www.flickr.com/photos/130932591@N08/> and numerous items of equipment dating from the 1800s to 1930s is now on auction for public bid. This complete and working “Gentleman’s observatory” telescope & equipment has a documented provenance under three owners from 1891 through present. It logged 136 double stars and many planetary observations in the early 1900s. Interested bidders may apply via submitting a Statement of Qualifications, available at cooke.telescope.auction@gmail.com. The application closing date is 03 October 2015. Qualified applicants will then be invited to submit their bids commencing 15 October 2015 and ending 31 October 2015.
