I always like the tiny stars and sharpness a good ASA scope can deliver. Overall a great image. But there seems to be a weakness in the colour saturation and contrast that gives a slightly washed look to some areas.

I don't know if this is a gradient underlying your data that is weakening contrast (I know you image in light polluted conditions) or a processing choice but I think it can be corrected.

If it were I think it would lift the image and make it more vibrant and rich.

The data appears to be there.

Hi, Stuart,

A lovely image. I'm amazed at the way you've managed to tease out subtle and I believe genuine colour variations, especially in the OIII which is genuinely very weak in this object.

I like the artistic feel of the edgy local contrast, but I agree with Strong Mike that it's a tad over-sharpened, causing continuous features to fragment into star-like chunks.

I very much like the use of the field width to compose a striking image, and the ultra-faint stuff, new to me, that you've brought out on the right hand side.

Hi Stuart, great colour palette for this object with loads of interesting detail.

I think the overall sharpening is a little too much though. In the full resolution image the speckle from broad brush sharpening is evident and it can be seen in the smaller version.

However, besides this somewhat minor issue, the image looks good.

You do need to crop the bottom of the image; there's residual stacking artefacts (green banding). :)

A great image, and well processed. It is not an easy target in my opinion, and your result with 10-hour integration is awesome. :thumbsup:

OK, I toned down the sharpening, a little bit. Any further and I was losing detail in areas that I had actually drawn out.

Mike, I'd love to image from Canberra, but daughter didn't get into medicine at ANU, so no shift on the cards yet. And it's bloody cold, it snowed on me last time I was there.



I also boosted the saturation in this version. There are some problems with the colour at the left side of the image caused by the massive amount of stretching in the OIII, I may have controlled it a bit better this time, or I just care less about it.

Be warned tough, there is still some noise in the image, but it's there, I could muck about and try to smooth it out, but it's real noise and without spending a lot more time on the target, it'll not smooth out.

Fantastic Stu, looks like a Cardassian Galor class warship cruising in the neutral zone. Awesome - you've inspired me to revisit my earlier attempt from a few months ago - (fingers crossed, stay tuned) - won't nearly be half as good as this one of yours though! Well done :)
