Hi All,
This image has been recreated from actual events that took place last Monday!
I was having fun observing the moon, and getting some stunning views. I decided to share them with Kath (who has very little interest in astronomy). We wandered out, and with her TV adapted vision she proceeded to look straight at the counter weight bar!!!! "I can't see anything"... :doh:... You have got to laugh. She eventually found the eypiece and after about 5secs said that's nice and headed back to the TV.. Can't blame me for not trying...

Before I mention it to her, I though I had better just check that she does actually know about this post.
There was a mount that had an eyepiece position like this a while back though, so you can't blame her entirely.

Something tells me most people (general public) don't know about Reflectors. Only Refractors, eg:

My 21 year old daughter was trying to see through the cooling fan in the mirror cell and said 'How can you see anything through there?' I have had quite a few people try look through the mirror cell over the years.

But Robby's is funny as his Kath is looking into something that isn't even near the OTA!

I just read a damn enjoyable book about the construction of the Mt Palomar telescope (The Perfect Machine by Ronald Florence) and in it he noted many times that reporters would almost always say "lens" or "giant eye" when referring to the mirror blank.

The press releases carefully stated mirror, but the news people would call it a lens anyway.
