Kind of opposite to the question asked already today - I am going on a camping trip where space will be at a bit of a premium but am looking to do a bit of star gazing while I'm there - maybe even taking some images (wide).

I have a short refractor (Skywatcher) I use as a guidescope and I thought this could be a good candidate for the trip. I already have a Manfrotto 055C tripod with a ballhead I plan on taking for photography (it takes the std Manfrotto dovetail plate - quite small). I'm just unsure on how to attach the OTA to it. At the moment it is mounted on the piggyback rings on my newt.

I have seen lens collars for zooms (200/300mm or thereabouts) that may be an option (at least for visual) but I guess I would need to pick one carefully that should match the diameter of the OTA ?

Has someone here done something similar ?

Cheers,

Steve

I fit one of these to my quick release adapter (instead of the camera). My el cheapo mount will hold my 102mm f7 achromat .....just.
