I wanted to make a two panel mosaic but I ended up having no overlap at all. So here's the two separate views. Not very far from each other at all.

M16 1:1 here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/M16_FSQ_fff.jpg)[5.1MB - 2901x1915]
M17 1:1 here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/M17_FSQ_fff.jpg) [5.7MB - 2924x1930]

M16 HD here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/M16_FSQ_HD.jpg) [2.7MB - 1920x1267]
M17 HD here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/M17_FSQ_HD.jpg) [3MB - 1920x1267]

Both taken with the FSQ106N/ QHY8 on G11. About 3h each.
Enjoy the view.

PS: Well what do you know? I did have an overlap. About 5 pixels.
That's why the software couldn't find it. So I did a manual alignment in PS.

The HD mosaic is here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/M16_M17_FSQ_fff.jpg). [5.2MB = 4603x1080].

I cut a strip in the fov and cropped to include both nebs as the DSOs were offset by nearly 50%.

Colours are very nice Marc. As to is the field of view. You have encapsulated some of the golden star fields in both images. Maybe a tad more contrast in the actual nebulae might give it the added punch it maybe needs.

Thanks Paul. I did use some sharpening on the nebs as far as the image scale allowed. I'd have to get better sampling to get more details IMHO. The only thing I'm not too fuss about is the stars bloating on M17. The seeing was a lot better on M16.

Hey both of these are pretty nice Marc. A shame they don't overlap they would have made a cracker of a mosaic. I love the golden star clouds.

Marc,

You need to fix the URL for your mosaic. It's prepended with the IIS URL.

Mosaic looks great! So expansive.

Thanks a lot Rex. I actually did a mosaic. I ended up having a few pixels overlap. Did the job.

Thanks H. Fixed now.

great result - just need a tad more cropping to remove slice from the top and bottom. Love the work and the result

That's a great image Marc. Beautiful colours. You would need a bloody big wall to hang that! Ken Duncan material there!

Awesome. Colour looks spot on to me (on iPhone) and the mosaic is epic!

Thanks David. I'm greedy when it comes to cropping. I want to keep as many stars as I can even if I have little triangles of missing data on the edge :P

Thanks Scott. :thumbsup:If I pass your idea to SWMBO I might need some compo.

Thanks mate. Colors are right? Must be a first.

Sorry Marc I obviously missed that. When I first saw your post I was on my phone so I didn't comment. Some stage in between then and when I finally got to see it on the PC you must have done the mosaic. Sorry mate will have to start reading the post again before I comment in future.
Anyway enough drivel.....

Mate that is an awesome image! You could print that on wall paper and run it down the hallway of your house. Love that wide field view and seeing these two in the one image up close and personal puts a whole new perspective on it.

Really enjoyed this. If I understand correctly you may have had more than one camera going on some nights?

Thanks a lot Russel. Glad you liked it

Thanks mate!

Thanks Rex. Yeah, no drama, I don't read posts fully either, especially Mike S's :scared3: . I posted the mosaic afterwards. I did that field in Ha (https://onedrive.live.com/?id=6930D3AD12D5044C%21907&cid=6930D3AD12D5044C&group=0&parId=6930D3AD12D5044C%211060&o=OneUp) a while ago with the C11/hyperstar combo, which is 540mm FL so close to the FSQ at 530mm, and I was pretty sure these two weren't that far apart. Just made it by a very thin 5px slice. Thanks to the flat field of the FSQ the stars on the edge matched seamlessly. That would have been another story with my newt.

Thanks Rob. No, only one camera. Just the QHY8 OSC on the FSQ. I did a bit on each DSO as they came up and repeated nights after nights to clock in the integration time. Didn't waste any time at all. Always shooting something. But for Wednesday night. I was still mopping the tent after that arvo sun shower.

Hey that looks pretty good Marc  I like the colours and the stars, very nice image. So, what scope, camera and mount did you use and is that a mosaic?

Nice mosaic, Marc! 5 pixels is certainly cutting it fine  It's good to see these objects in LRGB occasionally.

Cheers,
Rick.

Fantastic work Marc. You could fill in that small black gap with the background healing tool in PS.

Thanks Rick. Yes I haven't done much colors on these. You need really dark skies as the starfield is a little overwhelming.

Thanks Greg. I probably have some stars from another shot to match that hole yeah.

Thanks a lot Morton.
