Here's M33 the Triangulum Galaxy from Astrofest. Good elevation for it. I did 2 nights on it so nearly 3.5h over two nights in 5min subs.

FSQ106N/QHY8 on G11.
I have a full field 1:1 here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/M33_FSQ_fff_bal.jpg) [6MB - 2982x1930]
A 1:1 crop here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/M33_FSQ_cfff_bal.jpg)also: [2.2MB - 1832x1145]

Did this one in CCD Stack and PS5.
Feedback welcome.

PS: updated all the files with color balanced (hopefully) correct ones this time. :)

Marc, hats off to that image. Great detail and excellent processing.
Have to put that one in my todo list for next year.
Good to catch you at Astrofest

Nice one Marc. Nice detail, perhaps a little under-saturated for my taste but that's a very personal thing. Great image.

Beautiful work Marc. I've got quite a bit on this one too with the ED but have only managed to get to lum processing stage so far. Have had lots of fun swimming around in your large size 5mb frame!

Yes - was great to meet you in person after years of enjoying your many constructive posts. Reminds me how very helpful it is to be learning all the time from the many expert IIS contributors.

Actually that's quite a big FOV Marc. Did you use a reducer with the QHY9/FSQ? I didn't know there was one available?

Thanks guys. Too kind. Looking at it this morning it looked a lot better last night. I managed to do square stars. Will have to check my debayering. Not having much luck with my colors either. That's probably why I don't do galaxies.

Thanks mate.

Thanks a lot David.

Thanks. I reckon I'll revisit the color when I figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks Allan. That should nicely fit you fov. Good to catch up with you at astrofest too and thanks for the help with the tarp during the "sun shower".

Thanks Rex. You're absolutely right. Time for a repro this week end.

Thanks mate.

Thanks Rob. Great to finally meet you too. It was a QHY8. My bad. It's slightly wider than the QHY9 and has much bigger pixels unfortunately.

Perfect subject for the optical train, and perfect subject for a trip to Qld. Huge amount of detail in the galaxy. Stars look fine to me. No coma, sharply in focus. Very deep and clean for only 3.5 hours. Reckon you'll have no trouble tweaking the colour. It's all there. Congratulations.

Great shot Marc. But where's the colour? Its great luminance and detail but a bit lke a Crème Brulee without the topping!

Echoing others - your photograph allows to apreciate this galaxy in fine detail

Thanks Mike. Will have a play this weekend and update the shot.

Too right. Bit on the gooey side and not crunchy enough. Need to look for a good galaxy processing tut online. It clearly is different from diffuse neb processing.

Thanks mate. Happy with the level of details for that FL but that's about it.

Thanks for the encouragements mate. Going to give the galaxies a rest for now and process the veil nebula. I can deal better with diffuse nebs at least.

Hi Marc,
Nice data.
I hope you don't mind?
I had a bit of play with your picture in Photoshop
& got some more colour & contrast out of it.
I used LAB mode & curves & many blurred masks.
What do you think?

cheers

Good catch Marc  lots of detail in there and wonderful image scale too!

Looks like it could benefit from a slight tonal shift more towards the blue though, at least on my monitor it looks a touch towards green :help:

Thanks Geoff. Likewise. It was good to finally meet.

Thanks mate. Yeah my color balance is a bit out. I'm planning on doing a repro.

Looks full bodied that Marc, nice capture...surprisingly, Al's repro actually looks good too  (sorry Al :P, most repros by others tend to ruin images )

Thanks Marc,
yes - definitely worth a re-process.
Every picture is so different that you have to experiment
to see what can be discovered in it.
Non global - blurred layer masks just on the galaxy is the trick.
Maybe that's cheating but Ken Crawford wouldn't agree.
The center area is so bright that it can be washed out unless
you use a blurred layer mask to stretch it with layer opacity to taste.
It was also slightly green but that was adjusted in LAB mode
as well as a colour boost.

Did a repro after checking the colors on Peter's shot (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=137969). Looks better IMHO.

I really like this one Marc. Very nice colour and detail. One of the good northern hemisphere objects that needs to be further south.

Thanks mate. Yeah, it's a pretty galaxy and it's still big enough not to look like a fly on the wall it a shortish FL refractor.

really nice work Marc - amazing detail for a smallish refractor and your colour handling is very convincing.

Thanks Peter. Getting there with the color. PI has some nifty color calibration processes and gradient removals. Need a lot more practice with it but getting there.
