Ngc300 with background annotated galaxies added

First Photoshop processing for a long, long time - but happy with the final result.
Took it easy on the data and just stacked with DSS and the layers combined in PS. Levels and curves applied in PS
No sharpening or other manipulation as its such a faint and fragile galaxy that I didn't want to mess too much with the data.

NO Pixinsight in sight - must learn it one day :D

Taken with 127mm Apo, QSI 583 camera. L=15x1200sec RGB=6x300sec each

Have posted colour just recently - sometimes things look better in B+W
The scope is quite different from NG scopes as has hand figured Japanese glass elements and only two made their way to Australia. Fortunately I managed to get one.

Nice work Allan! I've not seen this one before.

Can you explain your choice in exposure length? Your luminance seems very long and your RGB seems comparatively short.

To be honest, I'm not enamoured by taking a lot of colour as when processing I just want to add a wash of colour to a really detailed luminance image.
I know others that don't do Lum at all and just RGB for their images. It's just a matter of preference. It comes from imaging in light pollution around Brisbane where if you can get Ha or Lum subs then you are lucky and often you don't have the luxury of a complete set of RGB to play with.

Looks way better than my rendering of the same target. I found this object to be a total pain to process. I disliked the image so much I did not include it in the new website. It will have to have a new reshoot.

I like the way you have brought out the arms and the round stars make the shot. Maybe a little purple in the core but still a good process of this target Allan. Nice to see you producing images again.

Stick with PS. Nothing wrong with how it works in my opinion, but then again I learnt PS instead of PI.

Thanks for the encouragement Paul. It is a faint bugger but lots of luminance at a dark site got me there. And thanks for the encouragement.
I tried to keep it really simple this year at Astrofest and just aimed at getting as much data as I could.

Nice image of NGC 300 :) I happen to have snapped some HLRGB data of NGC 300 last night through a C14 so will have to see if I can match your nice rendering of smooth data and colour ....

Roger, is that fair? 14"vs 5" :confused2:
Its just so faint and I had to get two nights at a fairly dark site.
Next year its M33 and Ill have to go very deep on that.

Allan considering my LRGB skills :lol: and the fact the image scale will be something crazy like 0.6"/pixel, I wouldn't guarantee I'm going to get a better image than yours, not by a long shot :) You also have more data of longer exposures than I have, as I'm limited to 160s exposures on this particular telescope.

Just to see how many background galaxies there are - I finally found a use for PI and plate solved and annotated it using that program.
There is a whole lot of them identified in my sub.

Very nice image, Allan! I haven't ever imaged NGC300 but it has a reputation for being difficult, so you've done well.
