Folks,
This was originally just a test sequence while I was waiting for another subject to rise and curiosity got the better of me. It's pretty noisy, granted, and overcooked for sure, but I was surprised at the details that popped out with a little teasing.
The Sculptor galaxy, NGC 253, with my SW Esprit 100 and modded Canon 1100D. Ready and waiting for more subs :D
Cheers,
Dunk

Hi Dunk,
That's got a good amount of detail!
Hope you don't mind but I had a go at cleaning up the background.
It's something I've been playing around with on some of my images in Photo Shop.
Cheers,
Justin.

Hi Dunk,
This what I've been experimenting with Photo Shop.
Open your image in PS.
Go to image, duplicate.
Go to filter, blur Gaussian blur.
This is where you need to experiment.
I blurred to 25 pixels for jpg and 55 pixels for large tiff.
Reselect the original image.
Go to image, apply image, source and select the blurred image.
Go to blending and select overlay.
Then mask and play around with the different channels, also try invert too.
Then select opacity and adjust to it looks right.
This is what Iv'e been doing and it works with some images well and others not so.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Justin.
Wow Dunk, wish my test images turned out that well. Really nice mate.
Another good one Dunk. Hope Lewis is noticing how well your scope ( Esprit 100 ) is performing.

Thanks Justin, that's awesome! I'll give it a try.
Thanks Rex! I wish I'd taken more subs now, as it was I was killing time between targets
 yeah this scope is a cracker IMO, but thanks Rob!

Nice one mate, you will definitely have to dedicate a night or 2 to add to this, you can see the potential, it will be well worth it!
Great work Dunk. Would have been a thrill to see the dust pop out during processing I bet..... :D

Been a few 253's lately so missed commenting on this. Pretty good Dunk and Justin's tweak worked well too, nice job.

Very good Dunk! Great result for a test that's for sure. Nice star colour too. How long did you expose the 1100D for?

Thanks Rod! This was 12x 5 minute subs. It's currently uncooled so it needs cool weather to perform well, and AstroFest didn't disappoint :D
