Hi guys,

Well got to give my cold finger modified Canon 400D first light this weekend. It's an old beast of a camera, but have have wanted to see what this thing can do and push the limit on DSLR deep sky stuff before I one day bite the bullet and go to mono. The camera was modified by Luis Campos and appears to work really well.

Image taken with a modified and cold finger cooled Canon 400D and 12.5" f/5 scope. 5 min exposures at ISO 1600 totalling 2 hours and 15 minutes with some darks from my dark library thrown in for good measure.

This was my first go at this amazing object.

And now with a re-process to correct start trailing and create more contrast.

Nice work, I think I like the first version better though John ...no rings around the stars and looks a little more subtle (err?..that coming from Mr Un-Subtle :face: ), nice job.

Thanks for the comments gents.

Have done another re-process to temper down my saturation levels and also reduce some of the colour noise which was coming from the blue channel in particular which must be inherent in this DSLR.

Reasonably happy considering it's a 10 y.o DSLR and only 2 hours and 15 minutes of exposure.

Clear skies,

John K.
