That was a terrific tour. I remember it with much enjoyment. There are some interesting facts

- the first and last person killed during construction were father and son.
- the hardhat was invented on this project
- about 100 people died during construction but no-one is entombed in the dam

Cheers

It was built within a remarkably short time. The concrete is still curing, with estimates of 300 years to complete.

I recall the guide telling us that rotor was out for its 30 year service.

Thanks Gary.

Nice pics Rowland.
I hope nobody minds, but I'd like to tell everyone about an amusing thing that the lift operator at the dam told me many years ago.
An elderly lady once remarked to him that the water in Lake Meade was
a beautiful blue, but the water the other side of the dam down in the gloom of the narrow ravine looked almost black, was that because
they had taken the electricity out of it?:lol::lol:

Great pictures Rowland, what a massive structure.

Why am I always reminded of Chevy Chase movies when I see the Hoover Dam.

With quite a bit of construction to go. The bypass channels took almost a long to build as the dam itself.

A few more downstream images.
