Frustrationg - I hit every tool, camping and disposal shop this morning looking for a geologist's pick. NONE, apart from one camping store selling the el-cheapo Taiwanese $10 take your chances variety with a steel shaft (one strike at granite and I am feeling convinced you would have a bent shaft or shattered head). No thanks.

I am after an Estwing or similar with the one-piece head and shaft, and with the leather handle. I can get them off Fleabay for $65 Aus including post from the US, but was hoping to find an Australian shop that sells them. Several Aus shops on Fleabay, but their price is more than US landed price.

Anyone know of a good geologist's supply/fossicker's shop that has the QUALITY picks?

Thanks David, but they are even more than the Aussie fleabay dealers. Might need to go Fleabay afterall (the leather handle one is available new ex-Tassie for $84 inc. express post)

Hey Lewis, after swinging various Estwings for 15 years, I would strongly urge you to go for the shock absorbing handle instead of the leather. Your joints will thank you in years to come. The leather handle has very minimal shock absorbing quality about it, only looks better.

I wonder if the students union shop at unis that have a geology degree would have them. The students must get their geopicks from somewhere ??

They could have them in a Gemmology/Lapidary shop?
