After 3 days of rain the Mersey River at Latrobe, Tassie, is red with silt, and the Platypus were feeding.
These are the best photos I have managed of the subject, and it is because of the red river.
On days when it is beautiful and clear the reflections on the water, and the reflected light from the Platypus' pelt, destroy good detail, and I have thrown away more Platypus photos than I have kept in the past.
I was squatting on the bank and at times was just 2 metres from the animal; it was a bit special.

Excellent photos Trevor.
Will you be at TAStroFest over the weekend? I am presenting the session on introductory scopes for beginners.

Cheers

Great capture Trev, how often can one say I saw a platypus in the wild let alone photographed it

These are great :) I've never seen a platypus before, apart from pictures.

Glad you all liked the pics. It was a bit special.

Steve I haven't booked sessions cos I was unsure if I could get there. As it stands I won't. Brittany is an absolute legend, isn't she?

Yes, Brittany is a real asset for the Central Coast and has done a marvellous job organising this first TastroFest. It seems to have gone well. There was only limited viewing last night with rolling cloud bands. It is looking more promising to night.

So cool. That's a great catch. I hear it is extremely rare to spot them in the wild. Here's a funny one my brother sent me on FB. Translated from French.

How Platypus came to be.

"Just sayin'... if we're going to be stuck here for 40 days and 40 nights we might as well mingle with other couples"

Marc, that's as good an explanation as any for these odd creatures.
Derek, glad u liked them, and your welcome. Knowledge is good to share.
Steve, the weather was a real drawback for something that has been so well patronised.
It looks like it will be a regular annual feature, and I hope Britt puts it at another time of year next time. Although the winter sky to me is the most interesting, and the night starts early. But the winter certainly took a turn for the worse this past fortnight.
Still, well done for your support too mate and I hope it goes well for you.

How lucky is that!

I've only ever managed those all too typical fleeting glimpses of them in the
wild in the Eungella National Park west of Mackay.

Good to see such a difficult subject Trevor, those are indeed made by the water, a lovely creature there.

I tried a whole week to shoot Platypus up in Milanda, Atherton Tablelands a few year ago, with no success. Scored a few tree kangaroo's though.

Cheers.

Thanks Steve and Bob.
I see them here regularly Steve, but always with clearreflective water. The photos are very average when that happens.

Nice pictures, Trevor! They are awesome creatures aren't they? I hadn't seen one ever until I moved to Tasmania a bit over a year ago. Now I see them every time I go fishing on the Henty river. My wife also had one that swam beside her kayak for about 20-30 seconds.
