I have decided to let my 16" GSO dob go to a new home, as I am not getting to use it as I once did. It is the current GSO model with all the features mentioned in the advertisement for this scope:
New design GSO truss tube 16" aperture, 1800mm focal length Dobsonian delivers amazing views of deep space and represents outstanding value!
Huge 16" f/4.5 primary mirror boasts superior 1/12 wave surface error
New, stronger roller bearing design with thicker steel panels
Unique new roller side bearings with adjustable tension/braking by way of extra large, knurled side knobs.
Tube balance adjustment (fore and aft) of up to 25mm is possible
Strong 18-point primary mirror flotation cell - with a 4.7" cooling fan!
Easy assembly and disassembly of its heavy duty "TPL" truss tubes compared to complex 6-truss tube designs
Crayford style 2" 10:1 precision microfocuser with 1.25" adaptor
Outstanding quality - overall! Black colour!
No white reflective surfaces within the optical path in this design!
Features an achromatic 8 x 50 right-angle correct image finderscope
Limiting magnitude of 15.5 and resolving power of 0.29 arc seconds
You will see into deep space like you've never seen before...
In addition I have added:
A custom Varnished Marine Ply base to replace the factory laminate chipboard base. This base is lighter, stronger, and lower to the ground than the factory base while retaining all the funcitonality and accepting the factory bearings. This base can be disassembled into flat pack elements for transport if required (all connectors use cabinet makers bolts and hidden nut inserts).
Wheel barrow handles that attach to the base sides for easy movement of the assembled scope.
Rear Fan Shroud, and internal tube airflow baffle above the primary mirror.
Upgraded Primary mirror springs.
Bottom section Primary mirror covers.
Full Pushto system installed featuring US Digitial 10,000 step encoders on the Alt and Azimuth axis. Modification of the Alt bearing to accept encoder pivot bolt, and new Azimuth encoder pivot bolt.
Astro Devices Nexus Wifi box provide encoder connection and interface to your Planetarium software.
Tablet mounting stalk and holders.
Side mounted Battery box and 7AH battery.
Three socket 12V power distribution connector.
Black light shroud.
Telegizmo full length cover.
This wonderful scope has been kept in a dehumidified shed on my property and has always been covered by the Telegizmo cover when it is not being used. Any inspection is welcome.
The retail price of this scope alone is $2499, and the additions and extras add at least another $1000 in value if you were to equip today. All of this is for sale here for the reduced price of $1600. Terms of sale would be local pick up at my place at Lake Macquarie NSW (just south of Newcastle). Shipping is not possible due to the size of the components and the lack of suitable boxes to pack - although some of the original foam supports are available for protection during transport by the buyer.
