Why does the IIS Moon phase page shows Sat, 1st August as the date of the next full Moon for my location (Sydney)? According to Sky Safari this actually occurs on Friday, 31st July at 20:42h.

If the 1st of August were correct we'd be robbed of this month's Blue Moon, one of the least interesting astronomical events that everybody gets excited about ;)

Hm, must be a bug. My location is just about accurate, so are the rise and set times shown.

Hey Steffen, its possible we're talking about 2 different parts of the page here. The top black part shows exact date and time for the phases, whereas bottom part you've shown looks to me to be "rounded to the day"?

Yes probably. The table appears to show the phases at midnight (0:00h) that day.

I was looking at the black part, not the red and blue table.

Yes Steffen, it clearly says at midnight at the header of that section.
I presume it refers to midnight on the 31 July to be the morning of 31 July, not the night. In which case it makes the table correct.

It is confusing to refer to midnight on a date. As it is effectively the "space" between two dates. I am not sure if there is a protocol to distinguish which day midnight belongs to.
Perhaps it depends on whether it is depicted as 24:00 or 00:00.
