more lagoon repros

hi,

plenty of repro's going around because of the Venus like cloudy conditions. so due to boredom and that I was generally unhappy with my original processing (particularly with blowing out the hourglass) - I've had a crack at my most recent lagoon - turns out I had to be careful in how I altered the 32bit file to 16 bit - (turns out it wasn't dslr well depth afterall).

Original on this thread (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=135753)- unfortunately the same terrible conditions and only 40 mins AND that terrible focuser tilt. on that subject, I am looking to upgrading how the moonlight is attached to the tube, any recommendations on how to do this are welcome.

It isn't always present (which is why I probably haven't fixed it yet) but it must be loose as sometimes its quite pin point edge to edge then on other occasion the left side is quite bad - probably depending on angle. I was thinking simple wingnut setup with nuts on the focuser side.

anyway I think its an improvement just a shame with the tilt.

That's a nice looking Lagoon Rusty.

I see Astro shop have a focal plane tilt adjuster in the adapters section, though it's $90. My ED80 definitely needs one.

Nice repro Rusty, not sure about the orange bits but I really like the smooth natural look of the rest. I hear you about the focuser tilt, I have been battling a similar problem for what seems like forever. I think I have almost got it now, so keep at it mate and the only advice I can give is make small adjustments at a time, so you can see when you get to the right place, otherwise you end up overshooting back and forth. Not that I am speaking from experience or anything......:screwy:

That's great Rusty, looking a bit blown in the core I guess (but not too bad) but that nice spread of magenta Ha/Hb gas looks great, this often gets processed out :thumbsup:

Edit: Actually, after taking another look the core isn't really blown as such but rather probably just not matching the rest of the neb to my eye..?

Thanks Kevin, I'll look into that for sure - I hadn't noticed much tilt on your images though but I guess you've been using the newt more these days.




Thanks Rex, yep focuser tilt is annoying I hope you manage to sort yours out soon. I actually noticed the other night doing the compression ring up by tightening too much on one side early on would actually introduce quite a lot of tilt. it seems to have reduced it but its still there so i'll look into solutions.

Yep I hear you on the 'orangey' part struggling to get it right, perhaps another preprocess is in order :)



Thanks Mike, yep I agree the core is a bit funny, its waaay better than my first process attempt, i'll have another crack at I think - I grabbed some new data last night - I think with less tilt. I agree the right hand side of the image looks nice to my eyes too :thumbsup:

Nice one, Rusty! Nice detail and wispy bits. My only minor nit is that some of the central stars look a bit hard.
