I have been following Comet C/2014 Q1 Panstarrs for a while now first sighted it on the 13th probably one of the only ones to do so as I cannot see any photos from that time, last night I was clouded in and tonight there was bushfire haze but it added a nice red glow with the comet setting into it

The comet is nice and bright with two yellow tails one dust tail pointing North and another tail pointing Up away from the sun.

Thanks for the heads up, this one seems to have slipped though the local radar.
Bit of info here and a chart for the southern hemisphere. http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/comet-q1-panstarrs-bright-but-tight070920150907/

Nice ones Luis. I did get a pic of it last night but only 10 seconds worth of it. Hoping for a better pic through a bigger gun tonight, but it's very very low.

Took the old 120mm f5 achro to the park tonight. Here is a stack of 10 x 10 sec exposures at iso 1600. In a couple of nights time it should be high enough to try with the 10" newt. from my backyard. It's an interesting looking comet so far.

Nice one Rick clouds covered it today for me but caught the almost no moon setting. Tomorrow the comet will be close to the moon and Jupiter with Venus above quite he celestial event.

It was a very thin cresent moon. I was lucky with the comet, there was a long plume of smoke from a sugar mill, but it cleared just in time. Looks like tomorrow night will be our last look for the week with cloud and rain forcast from sunday here in Mackay.

nebulosity.

Thanks for posting this, I didn't know about this comet until I read this thread just after work, so I raced out side just in time to catch it before it set.

Captured with an 85mm lens on my Sony a5100.

If you look hard you can actually see that the tail is quite long, I would estimate it is around 8 to 10 degrees long.

Cheers
Jo

Great work Kevin , Jo and rick.

I have been trying from Melbourne, but weather has beaten me.

Excellent color Kevin. The blue Ion tails look to be very dynamic.
Others should be on the look out for kinks in these tail.

kind regards, Alan

You have got some great detail and colour in those tails Kevin. I hope I can get it with my 10" tomorow night, but that tail might be too long at 1200mm fl.

You will get the brightest parts of the 2 tails Rick and maybe pick up some nice detail.

Killer work with the 100ED Kevin especially tail details and blue colour.
It was very disappointing today with the clouds just handing around until the comet set hopefully better tomorrow.

Thanks Luis. Good luck for tonight. The thin crescent Moon should be just above it.
