Just to the northwest of the Rho Ophiuchi nebula complex is this gem.
When I was researching images of it on the net I clicked on one I liked and to my amusement discovered it was one of mine! An FSQ106ED image I took of it a few years back.
This is the longest image to date from the AP RHA scope at 9.5 hours.
Its an LRGB image.

Here is my original version of this with an FSQ106ED and FLI Proline 16803 on a Tak NJP mount;

Good one Greg! Excellent!
Makes me remember I took data on this target last year with a 9 panel mosaic with the BRC250, but I haven't even had time to check the integrity of the data yet, let alone process it....Hmmm will get to it!
Cheers,
Tim

Very subtle and naturally looking image, nicely done Greg. Maybe perhaps more data would help in further reduction of noise.

Not a bad idea. I've added a link to the earlier FSQ106ED image. It got a highly commended at the Malins that year.
Hehe  Noi Alzeimer's would be looking at the image thinking its really good and wondering who did it!
We can always combine data Tim!
More data is always good.

Great result Peter, I opened your post about Pluto I think it was ... and was surprised to see this image of a blue horse head shaped nebula...nice :P
Seriously, looks very clean and subtle Greg, lovely

Cheers Rick.
Thanks Mike. I like the way the fast scope has picked up this faint stuff so well.

Nice one there Greg, its not like most nebs, as doesnt have any sharp line edges, black globules,, swirls and prominent details;
Grouse colors and a good smooth object as far as dust goes..
Great target

Thanks Bob. I first noticed it in a mosaic by Rogelio Andreas. Its quite a striking object and lovely colours.

Hi Greg,
I will check my data and contact you.

Cheers Rod.
It could be a cool image if you have some BRC250 data. It would be a similar field of view, the Honders is a tad wider but not a lot.

Great image Greg. Not often imaged.
Geoff
Would it be wrong for me to state that I like your original version better? Nothing particularly wrong the RH version, its just that this target is too large to appreciate with the FoV that the RH delivers. FoV is tight and appears to show less structure compared to the FSQ version. Still a great image.

Thanks Geoff, yes its not imaged a lot.
Nothing wrong with that. Different views of the same thing. I like the colour I got in the RHA version better and there is more detail in some of the blue wispiness. I looked at the original FSQ image again. I must have done a stellar job in processing that one. The RHA data is infinitely superior.
Greg.
Really nice shot Greg, lots of fine dust and detail in the new version, would be interesting to see a combination of the two as has been said.
I tried to image this target when I first started into AP with a standard 300mm lense, (not a good choice but was all I had at the time). Your original version is the exact image that I saw that made me want to try this object. Unfortunately I didn't have the equipment or the experience to do such a fantastic object justice. I thought of doing a mosaic of the area now I have semi reasonable gear, but mosaics open up a whole new set of challenges. Thanks for sharing this, it has taken me on a pleasant trip down memory lane.

I like the colour in this version over the FSQ version but I prefer the field of view and detail of the FSQ version. Maybe a mosaic or perhaps you could get the 50100 by FLI. That would give you a bigger field of view.

Thanks Paul. The FSQ one turned out well and its a pleasing image for sure. The 50100 would be awesome but its all a bit expensive for me. It would also need a new filter wheel and 65mm filters.
I saw the first image taken with one though - wow.

Was it the one taken by Wolfgang Promper? I have had some recent discussion with him regarding a flattener for the GSO RC 12. Surprisingly he has the 50100 sitting on the RC. He also has a very nice OS scope too.

Yes. He used a TV 127i which FLI are promoting as an astrograph. I guess its similar to an FSQ130 for a fraction of the price. I don't think it would be a good match for the RC12.It has 6 micron pixels and needs a large enough corrected field, 63mm. There would be very few scopes with a large enough corrected field for that one.

Nice pleasing colour Greg and lovely tight stars. Have to say that I prefer the FSQ version myself.
Cheers
