Helix up close

Hi everyone,

A Helix close up with the 0.5M Classical Cassegrain / ASA DDM85 / FLI PL16803 HaLHaRGB. Taken at Savannah Skies.

I tried to make the details sharpen as much as possible and create contrasts , but I see I created a bit of noise by going so far.....Not deep like Greg's recent presentation though.

I can see those comet looking things inside quite well. Really nice image.

You got a lot of detail in the core area. Overall I think it simply just needs more exposure time and things smooth out. I would take some O111 as well to help with the blue core.

That looks great Tim. The colours and details are outstanding. :thumbsup: I just feel you're trying too hard on the noise reduction and sharpening. Let the data speak. If it's slighty noisy who cares? There is a wealth of details in the central shock fronts that are visible because of your image scale and aperture. They've been destroyed and smoothed out by too much processing IMHO. Just let them come through.

Great work Tim! Well done. The .5m keller brings in the light, thats for sure. I agree with what others have mentioned. I've found PS object masks very powerful with this target when processing. It will provide finer control over what structures you wish to present.

Very nice image, lots of detail and good colours. As others suggested, I also feel that you hit it a tad too hard with noise reduction and sharpening and therefere distorted original data in the subtle parts of the nebula. Clearly you have some quality data and it may take a few attempts at processing it until you get the most out of it. Great result nevertheless :thumbsup:

Tack sharp Tim! There's actually quite a lot of wispy detail lurking in the background, but it may be tricky to reveal without blowing out the main subject.

Lots of details in there Tim, large aperture and long focal length paid out well. Processing is very good, I don't see the noise bothering that much IMHO..
