I'm looking for suggestions for a overnight Barossa Valley, SA accommodation (family of 4) that will be a great site for some visual observing. I will take my chance with the weather.
There are a number of farm stays but I am looking for a combination of best with low light pollution but somewhere good for the kids to walk or do things during the day.
Thanks in advance.

You could try the Tanunda Caravan Park http://www.discoveryholidayparks.com.au/sa/tanunda/barossa_valley Plenty to do around there, especially if you take the bikes (I think you can hire), only a short drive to Menglers Hill lookout.
For slightly darker skies, I would think the Clare Caravan Park at Auburn http://www.discoveryholidayparks.com.au/sa/clare_valley/clare would be pretty good.

Now they are both excellent ideas, priced ok as well. Thinking laterally I could hop in the car and find a good spot nearby with low light pollution for an evenings viewing. Clare is a little further away for me but quite doable.

If you are up there on either the 11th or 18th July, you could try and expedite a membership with ASSA, and crash one of the members nights at Stockport.

Hi Paul, I am a member. Perhaps a better idea is look at accommodation closer to Stockport. I will see what google comes up with. Good idea.

Oh, then I'm surprised you didn't think of that.;)
There isn't really any good accom near Stockport (despite the caravan park right next door). I'd still stay at either Tanunda, or even Gawler, as it's only 30 minutes by car.
