I received this email from Charlotte from Girl Guides.

If you're able to help (thinking 3RF or others) then please get in touch and I'll pass your details onto them.

Comments: Hi Mike,

As you may know, Girl Guides Australia has had a century of changing girl’s lives and empowering women. We are proud of our accomplishments to date. We continue to strive to empower women by the Programs we have for Leadership Qualification and the programs delivered to units.

The empowerment of young girls and women is at the forefront of our mission. Every day we hear stories of the extraordinary achievements of our Girl Guides and we want to continue to inspire their creativity, curiosity, passion, advocacy and sense of community by delivering programs focused on leadership and personal development.

Girl Guides NSW+ACT will hold an event on 9 April 2016 called Science in the Park. The event will fall over two days, and be filled with science activities and experiments with an aim of encouraging our members aged 5-30 to engage with Science, Technology and the Environment, areas that unfortunately are currently lacking young women in their professional fields. Women are crucial to these fields of study. They maximize innovation, and creativity. This event will showcase science and technology, with the hope of spreading information about its importance, and be an opportunity to provide positive role models in the field of science and technology that can engage the girls and explore science in a greater capacity.

The event will be held at the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan.

I am writing to ask your support for the event in 2016 in any capacity you can. The girls do a stay overnight at the venue, and it would be great to have someone passionate about astronomy, with a telescope to do a session with the girls. Unfortunately we have quite a low budget, as we are a not for profit so the donation of your time and skills would be most appreciated.

We would in return, promote you to our membership base, and promote any school holiday workshops to our parents.

Empowering women is at the forefront of our mission, and it’s the generosity of people like you that will help us empower the next generation of girls and young women to be our future Leaders, and to grow into confident, self-respecting, responsible community members.

thanks
