Driving back from Noosa this morning, just near Maroochy Airport, I spy the first 2 F/A-18F's in echelon formation (I didn't hear them because I had the stereo up a touch :D).

Then another 2...

And Another 2.

I was hoping for another 2, but realised that was our entire inventory in one place already :P.

They look great beetling about at 250ft or so, then banging on up into the clouds after passing YBMC waypoint - they would have been at Amberley before I even turned down the parallel road alongside the runway...

Perhaps related to the joint exercise with the USS George Washington and its support ships.

Umm...the RAAF has quite a few (24 I believe) F/A-18F''s operating at 1 & 6 SQN RAAF Amberley. We have had them for a couple years now. The RAAF is also going to receive 12 EA-18G Growlers starting this year.

The RAAF's top guns have been going through their paces at Williamtown base, maybe those you saw were part of that group.

They certainly do look great, Lewis. Last year I jagged three flights of four go round the corner at Point Danger on their way to Evans Head. Very up-close and personal.

The bus load of Chinese tourists there were very excited by it all.

Priceless.

They're getting a new Stealth fighter too.
