Captured the other weekend using a Canon D60a, this is a single 30 second exposure at ISO3200, Canon EF zoom @ 16mm, wide open at F2.8.

Sagittarius in the Winter (http://astrob.in/188992/B/)

Processed in Photoshop

This was at the end of the session and dew had started to form on the lens so its a bit soft, but interesting the way the halos around Antares and the other bright stars came out.

Thanks for looking

ps: apologies for lack of mini image but really struggling trying to compress this

Cheers Daniel, it's a very dark location, nearest street light is 20km away and the seeing that night was excellent.

I recon that's about all I would ask if I was to rework evolution and that is to ensure that my retina had enough extra sensitivity to color at low light levels such that this was the appearance of the Milky Way to my naked eye from a dark sky ...that would be very cool.

Nice

Pretty much summed it up! Great pic David, especially for a 30sec sub. Wish this is what it looked it to my naked eye too :D With the softness, perhaps a mask to process the core via increased contrast/sharpness would help, this is a vid I found very helpful for doing that sort of work:

Again, great pic!
