Oh dear. I was searching for information on obtaining approval for use of a laser pointer in Victoria (for astronomy outreach events ONLY!!) and I came across this - scroll down to PART 6 and continue scrolling the table down till you come to "Laser pointers".

Astrology? Damn, obviously I can't legally use one for astronomy... :mad2: :P

It's OK to use a laser pointer, as long as you only point it at the 12 signs of the Zodiac and the 5 naked-eye planets. Everything else is off-limits!

Obviously written by Victorias finest legal minds. You will have to join the psychics guild to prove a legitimate use.
Probably easier to get a mains powered laser and a long extension cord, then you won't have to worry about permits or output restrictions.

Astrology is a branch of psychics, isn't it?

So what is the go with victoria?

Seems to be that you need to belong to an Astro Club/Society and then apply for an individual permit at the cost of around $150-160 for 3yrs?

Where as NSW, just being a member of a registered Astro Club/Society, no need for permit/cost etc, allows using the pointer in observation or outreach is acceptable/legal? ie: common sense approach?
