G'day all,

Thought I'd mention the ASWA Astro Camp seeing as it's coming up, and there aren't many Western Australian observing events mentioned here.

I've been to about 12 now and always have a great time. Nice open observing field, good people, nice surroundings for bushwalks etc.

It's run by ASWA but anyone from any or no club is always welcome. We always have several non-ASWA visitors and make them feel welcome, no problem there.

I've attached the standard info sheet ASWA has for it. Booking is requested, helps organisation and all that.

Dorm's are the usual accommodation for most, you can book small cottages in the village if you are lucky (often book out), or setup your tent next to ya scope on the field. I go the tent.

It'd be good to see some fellow Ice In Spacer's there. I'll be there for sure, tackling the astro photography as per always.

If you want to come, easiest to contact ASWA via their site. .. http://aswa.fino

Oh... and as the PDF explains there is a cost.. $15/night + $5 (see PDF). Very reasonable.

Roger.

Thought I'd post a message saying how this went, even tho there's so few locals around these Ice In Space parts....

Well, that was an interesting camp.

A dynamic combination of clear sky, cloud, lightning, mist/fog, bonfires(!) and meteors! Almost sounds like a wine explained like that. Is there anything we didn't see?

I've put a selection of my images, with comments at my site..

Everything but the small sections of clear sky prevented much astro photography, so only M42 and M8. I might get an image of NGC 2070 (Tarantula) together in the coming week, I have some raw data of it. Even with all the events of the weekend, it was still a great camp as per usual, wouldn't have missed it.

Roger.
